The Maori Battalion was a unit of the New Zealand Military during World War II. Comprised mainly of Maori soldiers, the battalion played a significant role in several major battles of the war, including the Battle of El Alamein and the Battle of Monte Cassino. The battalion was known for their bravery and fierce fighting spirit, earning them the nickname “The Fighting Maori.”
