Genghis Khan is portrayed as a villain in Western media due to his extreme violence and mass murders, while also being seen as a hero for his incredible achievements in creating the largest contiguous empire ever in only 25 years. His military campaigns were marked by strategic brilliance and extreme brutality, including the execution of enemies through methods designed to instil terror, such as pouring molten silver into the eyes and ears of adversaries. Despite his violent methods, Genghis Khan implemented policies of religious tolerance and meritocracy.
