Battle of Verdun
The Battle of Verdun was fought on the Western Front in France during World War 1. The battle was the longest of the First World War and took place on the hills north of Verdun-sur-Meuse. The battle lasted for 302 days, the longest and one of the most costly in human history.
During the Battle of Verdun the French repulsed a major German offensive. It was one of the longest, bloodiest, and most-ferocious battles of the war; French casualties amounted to about 400,000, German ones to about 350,000.
