The Aztecs rose to power through military conquest, strategic alliances, and a highly organized society centered around their capital, Tenochtitlán. Their empire thrived on agriculture, trade, and a deeply ingrained religious system that included grand ceremonies and human sacrifices to honor their gods. However, their dominance also led to conflicts with neighboring states, creating enemies who later allied with the Spanish conquistadors. The arrival of Hernán Cortés in 1519, along with European diseases and superior weaponry, ultimately led to the downfall of the Aztec Empire. By 1521, Tenochtitlán had fallen, marking the end of one of Mesoamerica’s most powerful civilizations.
