September 25, 1918. High above the battlefields of France, a lone American pilot, newly promoted Captain Eddie Rickenbacker, found himself outnumbered and outgunned, facing seven Prussian aircraft. The captain could fly away and request reinforcements but chose the opposite: face the enemy to prove his mettle. With nerves of steel and unmatched skill, Rickenbacker dived into the fray, guns blazing. Each second was a struggle as the already celebrated ace outmaneuvered the superior enemy force, turning the tide of battle with sheer audacity. One enemy Fokker aircraft went down in a ball of fire, then another, leaving the captain facing the surviving five. “The odds are still uneven”, the captain thought as he pursued the enemy pilots who decided to retreat.
